Bremen becomes a Solar City
This was decided by the responsible political leaders in June. With the new regulation, Bremen and Bremerhaven want to fully exploit the potential of solar energy. If the consumption by the steel industry is deducted, photovoltaic alone could cover 40 percent of the regional electricity consumption. The photovoltaic obligation applies to private and public new buildings. Support programmes are intended to guarantee social compatibility. Roofed parking spaces, facades and open spaces are also to be used increasingly for electricity production, and a simplified registration procedure is being implemented for modules on balconies.
For the operators, the systems will be worthwhile in several ways: On the one hand, as citizens of an exemplary energy-political city, and on the other hand through greater independence from electricity price developments and a great deal of savings potential with correspondingly high self-consumption.
