PV self-consumption in the Netherlands: Dutch video
The Dutch YouTuber "Ketel Klets" has featured my-PV solutions in one of his latest videos. The video has already garnered nearly 70,000 views – a clear indication that PV self-consumption is a topic of great interest in the Netherlands. This growing interest is partly due to the feed-in charges introduced last year, which encourage Dutch PV system owners to use their self-generated electricity as efficiently as possible within their own households. Storing PV surplus as heat and using it for hot water or heating significantly increases self-consumption.
The video’s comment section saw substantial engagement, with both positive but also critical feedback, particularly regarding the pricing of my-PV devices. We take this feedback from the community seriously, as it highlights the need for further education about the concept of PV- heat in the Netherlands. Therefore, we want to explain why my-PV devices are the ideal solution for PV system owners who aim to use their electricity efficiently rather than feed it into the grid at a cost.
Intelligent control for maximum PV self-consumption
All my-PV devices are continuously regulated, adjusting the grid feed-in point every second. This ensures that every watt of PV surplus is utilized for hot water or heating. This functionality sets my-PV devices apart from heat pumps and conventional "on-off heating elements." While these alternatives may be less expensive, they cannot regulate PV surplus with the same precision, leading to energy losses. Unused PV energy is often fed back into the grid, incurring costs and reducing profitability.

How much difference does this make over a year?
Compared to step-switched heating elements, linearly controlled heating elements can save up to €300 annually. Read more about it here.
Versatile compatibility
A key advantage for customers is the compatibility of my-PV devices with over 75 partner systems. Thanks to their compatibility with common inverters, battery storage systems, and smart home setups, my-PV devices can be integrated into nearly any existing system. Notably, my-PV solutions prioritize battery charging and only use surplus PV energy for hot water production afterward.
Additionally, my-PV's P1 interface enables surplus power detection via existing smart meters, eliminating the need for an additional surplus detector often required by competing products—a clear cost advantage often overlooked.
Short payback period despite higher upfront costs
Reference projects demonstrate that customers can save up to 50% of their energy costs for a two-person household with a solar coverage rate exceeding 50%. This not only reduces reliance on expensive, non-renewable energy sources like gas but also eases the load on primary heating systems, which can be turned off during summer. As a result, the lifespan of the heating system is extended. Thanks to these savings and the short payback period, the total cost of ownership (TCO) is lower despite the higher purchase price.
Grid-compliant devices
my-PV devices are technically convincing due to their grid compliance. According to the technical connection requirements of Austrian and German grid operators, phase-controlled heating sources may only be connected without approval if their output is 200 watts or less. In contrast to these thyristor controllers with phase control, commonly used in light dimmers, my-PV devices operate precisely and without interference. Issues such as flickering lights, often associated with light dimmers, or unintended shutdowns of other devices caused by thyristor controls, are eliminated with my-PV. For those interested, detailed differences in control methods are available here.
Easy installation and commissioning
Installing a my-PV device typically takes less than an hour. Thanks to the integrated display, commissioning is straightforward and intuitive. Additionally, all my-PV solutions (except ELWA) are network-capable. With the my-PV Cloud, users can monitor their heat generation in real-time. No PC is required for commissioning.
Future-proof solution for the Netherlands
my-PV products provide PV system owners in the Netherlands with a future-proof solution for current challenges. With our devices, you can minimize grid fees associated with feeding PV power into the grid, maximize self-consumption, and make using surplus PV power simple, cost-effective, and sustainable.
