New my-PV Setup app simplifies commissioning

Automatically set up devices available on the local network: the new “my-PV Setup” app guides users through the process step by step. This makes commissioning my-PV solutions and compatible components easier, helping installers and private customers use solar power efficiently for heating.

Commissioning energy management solutions does not have to be complicated. With its new “my-PV Setup” app, Austrian photovoltaic heating specialist my-PV is making its products easier to set up. The app automatically detects available my-PV devices and compatible components from more than 90 partners on the network, including inverters, battery storage systems and EV charging stations.

This makes the initial configuration of my-PV solutions with different components in an energy system more convenient. When using solar power to generate heat, interaction between the individual devices is particularly important: surplus solar electricity can be used specifically to heat water or support space heating, rather than simply being fed into the grid. This increases the proportion of self-generated electricity consumed on site.

Quick setup with plug and play

“We are making the initial setup of our products even easier with a fully plug-and-play solution,” explains Bernhard Rimpler, Head of IT at my-PV.

In addition to the existing setup method, which involves finding the device’s IP address, users now have another convenient option: devices can be integrated directly via the app, regardless of whether they are connected to the network via LAN or Wi-Fi. The software also works independently of firmware versions and supports older devices.

This simplifies commissioning both for new installations and when retrofitting existing PV systems. For installers, it means a clearer, faster configuration process on site; private customers benefit from an easier introduction to using my-PV solutions.

Step-by-step guidance through commissioning

A clear, structured setup process guides users through each step. Installers can use the “my-PV Setup” app to change settings, view operating data and adjust detailed configurations.

Some detailed settings, initial evaluations and selected charts can be accessed directly in the app – independently of the my-PV Cloud. However, the full range of options for analysing operating data is only available in the my-PV Cloud. This makes the app a practical tool for on-site commissioning and configuration.

The available operating data help users keep track of connected components and tailor settings to the specific installation. This is especially relevant when surplus PV electricity is to be used for heat generation: a properly configured solution can help households use more of the solar electricity they produce themselves.

Photovoltaic heating: using solar electricity directly for heat

Photovoltaic heating makes it possible to use self-generated solar electricity for domestic hot water and, depending on the system, to support space heating. With my-PV solutions, surplus electrical energy from a PV system can be converted into heat in a targeted way.

This offers several benefits: it increases on-site consumption of PV electricity, makes better use of self-generated energy and links heat supply more closely to a household’s own electricity production. An existing hot water tank or buffer tank can therefore serve as a thermal energy store, storing solar electricity in the form of heat.

The my-PV Setup app makes it easier to get started with this integrated approach by simplifying device setup and providing direct access to key settings and operating data on site.

With the new app, my-PV is focusing on straightforward installation and convenient operation. It supports installers during commissioning and helps users configure their solutions for optimizing self-consumption in a clear, accessible way — enabling more efficient use of the solar electricity they generate themselves.
