Dutch YouTuber shows how AC•THOR maximises PV self-consumption

As the Dutch net metering scheme is set to end in 2027, using as much self-generated solar energy as possible is becoming increasingly important. In a new YouTube video of KetelKlets, a popular creator in the Netherlands in the field of sustainable heating and home energy technology, demonstrates how the AC•THOR provides an intelligent solution for exactly this challenge.

During the installation of a new heating system, the YouTuber wanted to control his electric boiler using surplus photovoltaic energy. Conventional approaches, such as smart plugs or thyristor dimmers, proved to have significant limitations, as they cannot continuously adjust the heating power to match the available PV surplus. As a result, valuable solar energy is often left unused.

With AC•THOR, he found the solution he was looking for. Thanks to its linear power control, the device automatically converts every available watt of excess solar energy into hot water, maximising self-consumption without unnecessary feed-in losses. The installation was particularly straightforward thanks to the seamless compatibility with his existing SolarEdge inverter.

In the video, viewers gain a detailed insight into the technical setup, the installation process and the functionality of AC•THOR. The creator also demonstrates how the my-PV Cloud allows users to monitor and optimise their energy flows with ease.

More relevant than ever for the Netherlands

This is already the second successful collaboration with the YouTuber. A previous video about producing hot water with photovoltaic energy has already attracted more than 100,000 views, highlighting the growing interest in PV heating solutions.

With the Dutch net metering scheme ending on 1 January 2027, this topic is becoming even more relevant. In the future, the profitability of a PV system will depend far less on feeding electricity into the grid and much more on using it directly within the home. At the same time, many energy suppliers have introduced feed-in charges, making self-consumption financially more attractive than ever.

By automatically converting surplus solar electricity into hot water or space heating, solutions such as AC ELWA 2, AC•THOR and AC•THOR 9s help households significantly increase their self-consumption – often from around 30% to as much as 85%, depending on the system configuration and consumption profile.
