New reference project - district heating with PV
Since the end of February 2019, a dozen 3-kilowatt immersion heaters and modern AC•THOR power controllers have supported the district heating supply of a new residential complex in Vienna. An energy management system ensures that the entire solar power of the 47-kilowatt system on the building is used linearly controlled for hot water preparation via an 800-litre heat storage tank.
This is the first time that decentralised hot water generation based purely on solar power has supported a district heating network of this size. "The project implemented together with the company KELAG Energie und Wärme GmBH will set a precedent. It means a great success for the whole sector coupling, since the sinking price for solar modules meanwhile makes further Power-to-Heat applications economical", explains my-PV managing director Dr. Gerhard Rimpler.
